The Dutch military police have identified the man who died after falling into a plane engine at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport as an employee of a company working at the airport.
According to reports, the man intentionally climbed into the running engine of a Dutch-owned KLM aircraft just after it completed its push-back procedure on Wednesday afternoon.
Passengers and crew onboard witnessed the tragic incident and were offered counseling.
Emergency services responded to the airport shortly before 3pm after the alarm was raised.
The Dutch Safety Board has sent investigators to the scene, and the incident is being investigated by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee.
