Ed Sheeran, the renowned British singer-songwriter, recently expressed his views on the notion that some musicians are driven solely by passion rather than the desire for success in the music industry.
In a recent episode of “Therapuss With Jake Shane,” Ed Sheeran strongly rejected these claims, asserting that all artists ultimately seek recognition and praise.
He emphasized that musicians who claim they are indifferent to success would not release their music or collaborate with record companies.
Contrary to statements suggesting otherwise, Ed Sheeran argued that musicians are motivated by a desire for recognition and wealth. He stated, “I don’t believe any artist that says they don’t, otherwise, you wouldn’t release music because you’d be like, ‘If I don’t care what people think, then why would I even put it out?’ You’d just sort of make the music and be like, ‘Well, that’s made me feel good.'”
He continued, “All artists, we want to be loved. That’s why we are on stage. And that’s why you sign to a record company, to go, ‘I would like people to hear the music that I’m making.’ I don’t really subscribe to this whole, like, not caring thing. That’s all a kind of ruse, because it sounds cool to say but every artist wants people to like their music.”
Ed Sheeran expressed frustration with artists who claim not to care about how their music performs, asserting, “It really pisses me off when people are like, ‘Oh I don’t care how it does.’ I’m like, ‘F*cking shut up! You do! Everyone does.’ Anyone in the pop game definitely cares.”
In another development, Ed Sheeran revealed that the unexpected source of inspiration for his chart-topping song “Shape Of You” was the artist Rihanna.
He shared that Rihanna was on his mind as he wrote the melody and lyrics for the song, which captured widespread attention upon its release on January 6th, 2017.
