Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima has been reported missing along with nine others on a military aircraft, according to Malawi’s presidency on Monday.
The aircraft, which departed from the capital Lilongwe at 09:17 a.m. (07:17 GMT), was supposed to land at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02 a.m. but went off the radar.
“Efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the aircraft since it went off the radar have failed thus far,” Malawi’s Office of the President and Cabinet stated in a release.
Search and rescue operations have been initiated.
