Protesters in Ukum Local Government Council, Benue State, demanded to speak with the Caretaker Chairman amidst ongoing killings in the area.
They responded by setting ablaze the Local Government Secretariat and the High Court in Sankera.
Hon. Paul Biam’s residence, secondary school, and warehouse in Biam were also torched, along with the district head of Borkiyo’s residence.
Protesters blocked the federal road to Taraba State and attacked a police station, resulting in two deaths when officers defended against the assailants.
Last week, it was reported that bandits imposed a mandatory monthly tax of ₦20 million on residents of three communities in Ukum LGA, with households required to pay ₦50,000 monthly to the bandit leader known as ‘Full Fire’.
