The Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) announced that the Nigerian government has successfully evacuated its citizens from Sudan following an expulsion notice issued by Sudanese authorities.
NiDCOM Chief Abike Dabiri-Erewa disclosed this in Abuja on Friday.
Sudanese security authorities had instructed all foreigners to leave Khartoum and surrounding areas due to safety concerns amid ongoing conflicts between government troops and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
There are reports of increasing hostility towards foreigners, particularly from other African countries, amidst allegations of foreign mercenaries within the RSF ranks. Recently, over 150 foreigners lacking valid residence papers were detained.
The conflict, driven by a power struggle between de facto ruler Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, has displaced nearly 10 million people and poses a threat of famine.
Dabiri-Erewa confirmed that no Nigerian citizens were left behind.
International aid workers and diplomats have relocated to Port Sudan, where conditions are relatively more stable.
