Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, has made history as the first and sole African artist to achieve over two billion streams in the United Kingdom.
During his sold-out show at Koko Camden in London on Monday night, Ogulu was awarded a Brit plaque in recognition of this milestone.
Just weeks earlier, he had received a Brit plaque for reaching one billion streams during another sold-out performance at London Stadium last month.
Expressing his gratitude, Burna Boy remarked, “Thank you very much. I appreciate you. Ehen, now that’s it. You’ve to fight for your right.” When one of the presenters suggested that he already had the plaque and didn’t need to fight for it, Burna Boy insisted, “No. You know, we have to fight for our rights.”
