President Biden, while giving speeches in Las Vegas, is “experiencing mild symptoms,” according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. She announced that Biden “will return to Delaware to self-isolate and will continue his duties fully during this period.” Biden is vaccinated and boosted. The White House will provide regular updates on his condition as he continues his duties in isolation.
Biden boarded Air Force One in Las Vegas at around 6:30 p.m. ET without wearing a mask. His doctor reported that Biden developed a runny nose and a “non-productive cough” on Wednesday afternoon. Although he felt okay for his first event, he tested positive for COVID-19 after showing symptoms.
Biden’s symptoms remain mild, with a normal temperature and respiratory rate and a 97% pulse oximetry reading. He has received his first dose of Paxlovid and will be isolating at his home in Rehoboth.
Biden was scheduled to speak at the UnidosUS Annual Conference in Las Vegas and have an interview with Univision at the Original Lindo Michoácan Restaurant but has canceled these engagements.
