As the #EndBadGovernance protests began in Abuja, the federal capital territory, police tried to control the expanding crowd of demonstrators chanting against the government.
During the event, riot police fired several canisters, one of which struck News Central’s camera operator, Mary Adebayo, in the foot. She was quickly taken to the hospital and is now stable.
Despite a heavy police presence and aggressive crowd control methods, protesters are determined to continue their demonstrations until their demands are met.
Amnesty International condemned the killing of peaceful protesters and criticized the use of firearms by Nigerian security forces in handling protests.
The organization urged the government to ensure those responsible for the violence are held accountable and called for a thorough investigation into the incidents.
The protests, triggered by President Bola Tinubu’s policies, have turned violent in some regions, with over 16 people reported dead in Borno, Kaduna, and Niger States during the nationwide demonstrations.
