Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, will conduct an interview with former President Trump on Monday night via his social media platform, X. Previously called Twitter, the platform played a significant role in Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and throughout his presidency.
This appearance is part of Trump’s ongoing strategy to stand out in the competitive race against Vice President Harris. It also indicates Trump’s return to X, where he has started posting again.
On Monday morning, Trump reappeared on X after a year, sharing a video asserting that the four criminal charges against him are politically motivated. He quickly followed up with several additional posts, suggesting he may become more active on X.
Trump’s last post on X before this was in August 2023, where he sought donations and shared a mug shot taken after being booked in Atlanta on charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia. His access to the account was restored shortly after Musk took ownership of the platform, following its suspension after the January 6, 2021, attack on Congress.
While Trump continues to post on his Truth Social platform, which he launched in February 2022, his reach there is limited compared to X.
His return comes at a time when Harris has seized momentum in the presidential race since President Biden dropped out and endorsed her. Vice President Kamala Harris, has recently overtaken him in opinion polls and has energized the Democratic base through a series of dynamic rallies.
The upcoming interview on Musk’s platform could allow Trump to connect with a broader audience beyond his core supporters. However, previous events on the platform have encountered technical difficulties.
Musk noted that system scaling tests were planned in preparation for the interview.
The event will be hosted live on Trump’s official X account, according to his campaign @realDonaldTrump. The event will take place on X Spaces, a feature that enables users to host live audio discussions on the platform.
Musk described the event as an “unscripted” and unrestricted “live conversation,” adding on Sunday that it “should be highly entertaining.” He also urged users to share specific questions and comments in the stream’s chat.
The Trump campaign said it will be “the interview of the century.”
The tech mogul endorsed Trump’s reelection bid shortly after the attempted assassination last month and has since levied a series of attacks against Harris.
