Authorities in Arizona have arrested 66-year-old Ronald Syvrud for allegedly threatening to kill former President Donald Trump on social media.
Syvrud, from Cochise County, reportedly made these threats over the past two weeks.
He was apprehended in Cochise County on August 22 without incident, as confirmed by Carol Capas, a spokesperson for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
Syvrud was being investigated for these threats against Trump, who is running for president again. He also has several outstanding warrants for unrelated charges, including DUI, failure to appear in court in Wisconsin, failure to register as a sex offender, and a hit-and-run in Arizona. The threats came just before Trump’s visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Cochise County.
Authorities had trouble locating Syvrud the previous evening but eventually arrested him.
This incident follows a recent assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania.
