Justin Timberlake has avoided jail time by agreeing to a plea deal after his arrest for alleged drunk driving in Sag Harbor three months ago.
The 43-year-old actor and singer pleaded guilty to driving while ability impaired, a violation that resulted in prosecutors dropping the more severe misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, which could have led to a year-long jail sentence.
Timberlake was sentenced to 25 hours of community service, fined $500 with an additional $250 surcharge, had his New York driver’s license suspended for 90 days, and will create an anti-DWI public service message.
The singer, arrested on June 18 after failing a field sobriety test, apologized in court, stating, “I won’t be back here again.”
His 2025 BMW was pulled over after running a stop sign and swerving, though Timberlake and his attorney claimed he only had one drink.
Following the hearing, Timberlake addressed the media, advising others not to drive after drinking, even if it’s just one drink, and to use alternatives like Uber or taxis.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney praised Timberlake for taking responsibility and highlighted the dangers of impaired driving, emphasizing that the law applies equally to everyone, regardless of fame or wealth.
