There seems to be drama unfolding in the literary world: Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Bezos’s fiancée, is facing allegations that the idea for her debut children’s book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, might not be entirely hers. While Sánchez has credited various inspirations for the book — including a fly she saw while earning her pilot’s license, Bezos’s space trip, her late-diagnosed dyslexia, and more — her former yoga instructor, Alanna Zabel, claims otherwise.
According to a lawsuit obtained by Page Six, Zabel asserts that she shared the idea for her own children’s book, Dharma Kitty Goes to Mars, during private yoga sessions with Sánchez from 2007 to 2011.
Zabel alleges they had several discussions about her feline-astronaut story, which was published in 2021. She also claims to have tried to contact Bezos regarding charitable proceeds from the book’s sales.
Zabel, who is representing herself, says this situation has caused her emotional distress and is seeking compensation through a jury trial.
Sánchez’s team has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
