During a recent livestream event with Oprah Winfrey in Michigan, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris humorously remarked, “If somebody breaks into my house, they’re getting shot,” while discussing her personal gun ownership.
Harris, who has been a gun owner since 2019 for personal safety reasons due to her career as a prosecutor, expressed her continued support for the Second Amendment. However, she strongly advocates for stricter gun laws, including an assault weapons ban, universal background checks, and red-flag laws.
While reaffirming her position on firearms, Harris emphasized that assault weapons are “tools of war” and have no place on the streets.
She also responded to critics, particularly regarding her evolving stance on guns ahead of the November election, and addressed false claims by former President Trump that she intends to confiscate firearms.
Harris highlighted the issue of school shootings, describing them as “bone-chilling,” and lamented the need for children to practice active shooter drills.
The event, which attracted around 300,000 viewers, touched on other important topics like immigration and the economy.
