The Department of State Services (DSS) has released six people arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protests in Kaduna State.
The demonstration, which took place from August 1 to 10, 2024, was a response to the increasing economic challenges in the country.
According to prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), a total of 2,111 protesters were detained across the nation during the protests.
A DSS source confirmed on Sunday that the six individuals were freed after investigations concluded, while three others are set to face prosecution. “On September 19, 2024, six individuals held in Kaduna were released after being cleared of any wrongdoing, but three others will be prosecuted due to established prima facie cases,” the source said.
The DSS Director General also reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to probing those who misuse protest rights for criminal activities.
The DSS spokesperson has yet to provide any official statement on the issue.
