Ellen DeGeneres recently disclosed that she has been diagnosed with osteoporosis, OCD, and ADHD after stepping back from the public eye following accusations of creating a toxic work environment.
In her new Netflix special, “For Your Approval,” the 66-year-old former talk show host opened up about the challenges of aging. She revealed that a routine bone density test led to the discovery of her severe osteoporosis, humorously describing herself as a “human sandcastle” who could “disintegrate in the shower.”
DeGeneres also shared that she began therapy due to the backlash and “hatred” from fans, which led to her diagnoses of OCD and ADHD.
She admitted that she was unfamiliar with OCD before her diagnosis, jokingly saying she initially thought the “O” stood for “organized.” She realized that her father likely had OCD, which she learned could be hereditary.
Regarding her ADHD, DeGeneres explained that it makes it difficult for her to focus, making even putting together her comedy special a challenge.
Despite her diagnoses, she humorously noted that her tendencies to obsess over things but quickly forget them might make her “well-adjusted” after all.
DeGeneres also addressed the controversy surrounding the allegations of fostering a toxic workplace on her show, which ended in 2022 after 19 seasons.
She acknowledged that being a public figure makes her vulnerable to others’ interpretations but emphasized that knowing her own truth is what truly matters.
She admitted that while she used to care about others’ opinions, she no longer does.
