Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice Small Combs, has publicly defended him amidst ongoing legal issues, including allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking.
In a statement released through her attorney, she acknowledged that while her son has made mistakes, he is innocent of the accusations against him.
“It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies,” Janice expressed. She criticized the way her son has been treated, likening it to a “public lynching” before he has had the chance to prove his innocence. She emphasized that he deserves a fair opportunity to share his side of the story in court.
This statement comes shortly after it was announced that Combs faces lawsuits from an additional 120 accusers, adding to the existing allegations. Attorney Tony Buzbee claimed these new accusers allege crimes dating back to 1991, with many stating they were drugged and raped.
Janice referred to the settlement of a previous lawsuit from Combs’ ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, as a factor in the new accusations, suggesting that the quick resolution led others to pursue similar claims for financial gain. She expressed pain over the public’s reaction to her son, asserting that false allegations undermine the experiences of true victims of sexual violence.
She also addressed the complexities of truth and lies, noting that her son’s previous dishonesty regarding a violent incident does not imply guilt in the current allegations. “Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story,” she said.
Janice concluded by asking the public not to judge her son without hearing his side, arguing that mistakes should not define a person’s entire life. She hopes to see him vindicated and able to share his truth.
