Jeff Carter, the youngest son of former President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter, has been privately living with Parkinson’s Disease for some time, according to his son Josh Carter. Josh, 40, revealing that his father, now 72, has not made any public announcements about the condition. He shared the news during a United Nations panel for the International Day of Older Persons.
Josh explained that while his father currently lives independently, Jeff planned ahead by making his home wheelchair-accessible. “We’re aware that Parkinson’s is progressive,” Josh said, adding that the family is prepared for increasing responsibilities over time.
Jeff Carter manages his symptoms through deep brain stimulation therapy, which involves surgically implanted electrodes that help control movement. The therapy has been effective, allowing Jeff to engage actively with his grandchildren.
Jeff’s wife, Annette Carter, passed away in 2021, and the couple’s middle son, Jeremy, tragically died at 28 in 2015. Recently, former President Jimmy Carter celebrated his 100th birthday.
