Former Nollywood actress, Regina Askia, has stated that legal expert Femi Falana has the right to pursue a defamation case against social critic Martin Otse, known as Very Dark Man (VDM), or resolve it as he sees fit. However, she pointed out that the underlying issues that led to the alleged defamatory remarks seem to have been overlooked.
On Monday, October 14, an Ikeja High Court ruled that VDM must remove his defamatory posts about the Falanas, and that the Falanas should serve their defamation lawsuit through his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju. Following the ruling, a social media report circulated, claiming VDM had been fined N500 million by the court.
Regina took to Instagram, expressing doubts about the legitimacy of the fine and questioning why no action was being taken against the person responsible for the claims in the audio tape released by VDM. She faced criticism in the comments from individuals who accused her of pushing a “negative narrative” about the case.
In response, Regina defended her stance, arguing that VDM was being made a scapegoat while the key issues raised in the audio tape were being ignored.
