Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, announced on Thursday that Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ top leader in Gaza, was killed by Israeli forces during an operation.
In a message shared with foreign ministers worldwide, Katz stated that Sinwar, who was responsible for the October 7 attacks, had been killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Katz described this as a significant military and moral victory for Israel and the free world against radical Islamic extremism, led by Iran.
U.S. Representative Mike Turner also commented, saying Sinwar’s death brought justice and expressed hope it would lead to the release of hostages in Gaza and relief for Palestinians suffering under Hamas’ control.
Sinwar had been a primary target for Israel following Hamas’ cross-border attack on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people and the capture of 251 hostages.
