In a tradition that has become annual, Mariah Carey has celebrated the end of Halloween and the beginning of her Christmas season with a viral video.
The video garnered over 2.2 million views within hours and features Carey in a Halloween costume, transitioning to Christmas attire as she kicks off the festive countdown.
Carey is synonymous with the holiday season, largely due to her iconic song, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which remains one of the most beloved Christmas songs ever. As part of her newer tradition, she releases a video on November 1st to mark the start of Christmas festivities.
This year, she partnered with Kay Jewelers for a video where she dresses as Morticia Addams from The Addams Family and dances in a grand mansion with a man portraying Gomez Addams.
The video opens in black and white, transitioning to color as a calendar flips from October 31 to November 1, revealing her Christmas outfit against a grandfather clock backdrop.
Next, viewers see Carey in color on Santa’s sleigh, surrounded by presents. She sings “It’s time” in her signature whistle tone, which leads into her famous Christmas song as the scene shifts to a snowy landscape with reindeer. The actor playing Gomez transforms into an animated snowman, dancing along to the music. Carey captioned the post on X (formerly Twitter) with “IT’S TIME!!!!,” which quickly went viral.
Carey has created similar videos in past years, starting in a black and white Halloween setting before switching to vibrant Christmas imagery as she sings “It’s time.” This year marks the 30th anniversary of “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which reportedly brings Carey $2.5 million annually in royalties, totaling $60 million since its release in 1994. The song also made history in 2021 as the first holiday single to receive the Recording Industry Association of America’s Diamond Award for surpassing 10 million sales and streams in the U.S.
In 2022, Carey expressed her astonishment at the song’s lasting popularity, stating, “It never ceases to amaze me and fill my heart with a multitude of emotions.” She noted how “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has remained relevant through various eras of the music industry.
