John Alfred Tinniswood, the world’s oldest living man, passed away at the age of 112 on Monday at the Hollies Rest Home in Southport, England.
His family shared that he spent his final days “surrounded by music and love.”
Tinniswood is survived by his daughter, Susan, grandchildren Annouchka, Marisa, Toby, and Rupert, and great-grandchildren Tabitha, Callum, and Nieve.
Born on August 26, 1912, during the reign of King George V, Tinniswood witnessed significant historical events throughout his life.
A widower, he married Blodwen in 1942, and they were together for 44 years until her passing in 1986. His family described him as intelligent, brave, and calm in crises, with a natural talent for math and conversation.
Tinniswood was named the world’s oldest living man in April, following the death of Juan Vicente Pérez, who had held the title at 114. He had served in the Royal Army Pay Corps during World War II and had a career in finance.
Reflecting on his longevity, Tinniswood attributed it to “pure luck,” stating that living long or short is largely out of one’s control.
