President Bola Tinubu will travel to Cape Town, South Africa, on Monday after concluding his visit to France. He will co-chair the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
According to a statement by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the high-level BNC meeting is set for Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the South African Parliament in Cape Town, preceded by a ministerial meeting on December 2.
Tinubu and Ramaphosa will discuss bilateral, regional, and international matters, reviewing progress since the 10th BNC session in Abuja in 2021.
The session will include deliberations across eight working groups focused on areas like trade, defense, banking, migration, energy, and manufacturing. It will also feature the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding and agreements.
Established in 1999, the BNC aims to enhance cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa. This year’s meeting marks the Commission’s 25th anniversary, reflecting the enduring partnership between the two nations.
President Tinubu will be accompanied by governors, ministers, and senior officials on his second visit to South Africa in 2024.
His foreign trips since assuming office total 33, covering 17 countries over 135 days abroad. After the BNC meeting, Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria.
