Former President Bill Clinton was released from the hospital on Tuesday, a day after being admitted for flu treatment, according to a statement from his office. “President Clinton was discharged earlier today following treatment for the flu. He and his family are deeply thankful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and greatly appreciate the kind messages and well wishes he has received. He extends his warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all,” the statement read.
Clinton, 78, was admitted on Monday afternoon for observation and testing after developing a fever.
Since leaving office nearly 25 years ago, the 42nd president has faced several health challenges. He underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery in 2004, treatment for a partially collapsed lung in 2005, and a heart procedure in 2010 to insert two stents into a coronary artery. In 2021, he was hospitalized in Los Angeles for six days due to a urological infection that spread to his bloodstream.
Despite these health issues, Clinton remains active. He spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August and was heavily involved in campaigning this fall. Following the election, he has maintained a busy travel schedule to promote his new book, Citizen: My Life After the White House.
