Before collaborating with Sabrina Carpenter on a new version of Please, Please, Please, country music icon Dolly Parton set a few ground rules.
In an interview with Knox News, Parton shared that while she doesn’t mind occasional strong language, she personally avoids swearing, making fun of Jesus, or speaking negatively about God—except, she joked, when she’s angry enough.
The revised duet, released on YouTube on February 14, 2025, features a lyric change from Carpenter’s original explicit line to a more family-friendly version. The music video shows the two singers driving in a pickup truck, with Carpenter sporting a retro-inspired look that contrasts with her previous music video aesthetic.
This is just one of Parton’s many high-profile collaborations.
In 2024, she teamed up with Beyoncé on Cowboy Carter, contributing to multiple tracks, including a remake of her classic Jolene. Parton praised Carpenter’s talent and expressed her love for working with artists like Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus.
Currently, Parton is focused on her upcoming stage production, Dolly: An Original Musical, set to debut at The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville from July 18 to August 17, 2025. As for future collaborations, she keeps an open mind, saying, “Whoever calls me that I like, I’ll say, ‘Yeah, I’ll do that.’”
