Combs’ legal team plans to argue that his involvement in a “swinging” lifestyle proves his innocence in the sex trafficking case.
During an April 25 hearing in New York City, federal prosecutors revealed that Sean Combs had rejected a plea deal for the charges against him. His lawyers also argued that Combs’ engagement in polyamorous relationships and hiring escorts demonstrated that he did not intend to commit illegal acts. They contended that his lifestyle, commonly known as “swinging,” was relevant to understanding his intent and that he might have believed his actions were acceptable.
Combs has previously denied the allegations, asserting that the sexual activities were consensual.
According to federal prosecutor Madison Smyser, Combs’ rejection of the plea offer was disclosed, although details of the offer were not provided. Combs is facing five counts, including accusations of using threats and intimidation to coerce women into participating in sexual activities. His defense team also sought to exclude footage of a 2016 hotel incident involving his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, arguing that the video was altered by news outlets.
Ventura is expected to testify at trial, set to begin on May 12. She is confirmed as “Victim-1” in legal documents, while three other victims have requested anonymity. Prosecutors have also sought to prevent the victims’ identities from being publicly disclosed due to the media attention surrounding the case.
