A man has died after being attacked by his own dog at his home, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Emergency crews responded to a call around 8:20 p.m. Monday at a residence on Kendall Road in Riga, New York, where it was reported that the man had been mauled by his dog, sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Brendan Hurley said.
The victim, 46-year-old Richard L. Dambrowski, sustained severe injuries to his face and neck during the attack, which took place inside the home, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Humane Society of Greater Rochester’s law enforcement team later arrived and euthanized the dog, identified as an American pit bull terrier. According to his obituary, Dambrowski was a passionate photographer and air show enthusiast. He is survived by his mother, sisters, and other family members.
