Braugher’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed his passing to Variety.
The Chicago-born actor gained recognition in 1989’s “Glory” and faced challenges in a Hollywood with limited roles for African American actors.
He later found success as Det. Frank Pembleton in “Homicide: Life on the Street” and brought humor to the role of Capt. Ray Holt in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” running from 2013 to 2021.
Braugher, married to his “Homicide” co-star Ami Brabson for over 30 years, won two Emmys from 11 nominations. His death was initially reported by Deadline.
