A Southwest Airlines flight en route to Tampa Bay experienced an unexpected turnaround following a bird strike during takeoff.
Southwest Airlines spokesperson stated that Flight 554, after being struck on departure climb-out, safely returned to New Orleans International Airport (MSY), where it landed normally and taxied to a gate under its own power.
The airline, prioritizing safety, is assisting the 164 passengers affected, arranging for a replacement aircraft to continue their journey.
The incident briefly led to runway closures at MSY for debris cleanup, causing some delays and diversions, but normal operations have now resumed.
