President Biden and first lady Jill Biden attended the dignified transfer of three U.S. soldiers killed in an aerial drone attack at an outpost in Jordan.
Alongside Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff C.Q. Brown, they met with the soldiers’ families at Dover Air Force Base before witnessing the somber return of the soldiers’ bodies.
The fallen soldiers were identified as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Sgt. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Sgt. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, all from Georgia.
The strike on Tower 22 in Jordan, injuring numerous U.S. service members, is attributed to an Iranian-backed militant group in Iraq.
President Biden, without revealing specifics, stated he has decided on a response to the attack.
Plans for targeted strikes in Iraq and Syria, including Iranian personnel and facilities, have been approved.
Defense Secretary Austin emphasized the gravity of the situation in the Middle East, asserting the commitment to defending U.S. interests while working to avoid wider conflict.
The dignified transfer, a solemn process, involves moving the remains from an aircraft to a vehicle, preparing them for their final resting place.
