The House Appropriations Committee has proposed $17.6 billion in military aid for Israel, which includes funding for missile defense systems, advanced weapons, and munitions.
The funding bill is expected to undergo a vote in the full House next week.
The Senate, controlled by Democrats, plans to introduce a legislative package supporting Israel and providing additional military assistance to Ukraine, possibly including measures for enhanced security along the US-Mexico border.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer aims to initiate debate on the bill this week.
Approval from both the House and Senate, followed by President Joe Biden’s approval, is necessary for the aid to be enacted.
The Senate is also considering aid to Taiwan as part of its comprehensive legislation.
