The German Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze, accompanied by Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. Bärbel Kofler, is visiting Nigeria from February 4 to 7, 2024.
The purpose is to strengthen bilateral relations between Germany and Nigeria in the field of development cooperation.
As per the statement from the German Embassy in Nigeria, the visit includes crucial bilateral meetings with Nigerian officials, including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.
The German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development plays a key role in shaping German development policy and is the principal commissioning partner of the German development agency GIZ.
With a diplomatic history of over 60 years, Germany and Nigeria, as leading economies and populous nations, aim to address global challenges collaboratively.
Minister Schulze, in her capacity as President of the Sahel Alliance, will also meet with Dr. Alieu Omar Touray, the President of ECOWAS, to discuss development cooperation in West Africa.
Additionally, State Secretary Dr. Bärbel Kofler will visit Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, to inspect projects at the University of Lagos and discuss potential collaborations with the Lagos State Government.
The Sahel Alliance focuses on various areas, including youth employment, climate and energy, governance, decentralization, basic services, food security and agriculture, and security.
