The Spanish High Court has issued an arrest warrant for Equatorial Guinea President’s son, Carmelo Ovono Obiang, following allegations of torture and kidnapping made by opposition members.
Accused alongside two senior officials, they are implicated in the abduction of four members of the opposition group MLGE3R during a 2019 trip to South Sudan.
Despite prior denials by the Equatorial Guinea government, compelling evidence of kidnap and torture emerged from victim testimonies.
The arrest warrant follows the son and officials failing to testify for the allegations when summoned by the High Court last year.
