The Akwa Ibom phase, facilitated by Bayobab and MTN Opco’s partnership, has been completed, with the cable reaching Ibeno in Akwa Ibom state.
Overseen by Equinix Company MainOne, the project solidifies Nigeria’s role in Africa’s digital connectivity revolution.
CEO Frédéric Schepens emphasizes that this landing is part of a series of six across five countries, fostering equitable access to world-class capacity for local service providers.
Josephine Sarouk, Managing Director of Bayobab Nigeria, sees the cable as a catalyst for Nigeria’s digital economy, supporting services like Fintech, IoT, AI, and e-learning.
The consortium, including Meta, China Mobile International, MTN Global Connect, Orange, Vodafone, Egypt Telecom, Saudi Telecom Company, and the West Indian Ocean Cable Company, aims to link 32 African countries, promoting economic development and expanding 4G and 5G networks.
