A blaze at Yan Katako Market in Rijiyar Lemu, Kano State’s Fagge Local Government Area, consumed about 25 stores and N150 million worth of goods during the midnight hours.
Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi, the market’s chairman, revealed that the fire began at 1 a.m. on Monday, damaging shops storing plywood, foam, spray machines, chairs, and other woodworking supplies.
While the cause remains unknown, Abdullahi commended the swift response of Kano State Fire Service officers.
He appealed to the state government and donors for assistance, emphasizing the impact on traders who lost their livelihoods.
Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, stating that around 25 establishments were entirely destroyed, with additional shops touched or partially harmed.
The fire was extinguished by the fire service around 2 a.m. after receiving distress calls at 1 a.m.
