Clashes broke out between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group in Khartoum on Monday, despite calls for a ceasefire during Ramadan, witnesses reported.
Eyewitnesses stated that army forces attacked RSF positions in various areas around Khartoum, including Bahri city and Omdurman.
The army claimed to have destroyed seven military vehicles and two oil trucks belonging to the RSF north of Bahri, resulting in casualties among RSF fighters.
The RSF has not issued any statement regarding the incident.
The UN Security Council urged an immediate halt to hostilities in Sudan during Ramadan in a resolution drafted by the UK, emphasizing the need for dialogue to resolve the conflict.
Sudan has been plagued by fighting between the army, led by Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF, resulting in thousands of casualties and millions displaced since April 2023.
Despite several cease-fire attempts mediated by Saudi Arabia and the US, the violence persists.
