Protesters in Kinjor, Grand Cape Mount County, erected roadblocks to disrupt operations at the Bea Mountain Mining company.
They jeered and threw stones at traditional leaders who attempted to persuade them to remove the obstacles for the second time.
Earlier, the traditional council leaders had appealed for a peaceful resolution after meeting with both the protesters and the management.
However, the protesters insisted that the company must adhere to their demands for any chance of peace.
“Our traditional council came to mediate and was met with hostility, being stoned and booed at,” reported our correspondent on-site.
Consequently, the head of the council instructed his team to withdraw and informed the central government of the situation, emphasizing the need for further action.
“This behavior is unacceptable. We came to reconcile, but instead, we were met with aggression. It’s disrespectful,” lamented Haje Sumbia, speaking through a translator.
