After recuperating from a muscular injury, Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen rejoined his Napoli teammates for training on Friday at the SSCN Konami Training Centre in Naples, Italy.
Among his fellow players was Matteo Politano, also in recovery, and other Napoli members who remained during the international break.
Initially named in Finidi George’s 27-man squad for Nigeria’s June 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the international friendlies against Ghana and Mali, Osimhen had to withdraw due to a muscle injury sustained in a Champions League match against Barcelona.
Reports indicate that Osimhen, alongside Politano, participated in the morning training session under Francesco Calzona’s guidance, with both likely to feature in Napoli’s upcoming match against Atalanta on March 30, marking the end of the international break.
Fans present at the training session showed their support for Osimhen, welcoming him back onto the field.
Meanwhile, speculation surrounds Osimhen’s future, with a potential summer departure from Napoli.
Transfer rumors link him with moves to Premier League clubs Chelsea or Arsenal, while Paris Saint-Germain has also reportedly shown interest in the African Player of the Year.
Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, confirmed Osimhen’s impending departure following a substantial €130 million bid from Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal.
Despite Napoli’s struggles in defending their Serie A title this season, Osimhen has been instrumental in securing a top-four position, netting 14 goals in 17 league appearances.
However, injuries, international commitments, including the AFCON, and changes in coaching staff have hindered his ability to replicate his prolific goal-scoring form of the previous season, where he notched 26 goals in 32 outings.
