Social media critic Martins Otse, widely known as Verydarkman, has been released from police custody in Abuja, confirmed by lawyer Deji Adeyanju.
Adeyanju expressed gratitude for securing Otse’s release after five days of negotiations.
Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore denounced Otse’s remand, citing alleged cyberbullying charges as misuse of police power to suppress dissent.
Otse’s arrest marks the second time this year; previously, he was detained in January following a petition by actress Tonto Dikeh regarding remarks made about the late Nigerian singer, Mohbad.
Otse had criticized Dikeh and fellow actress Iyabo Ojo, accusing them of exploiting the singer’s death for publicity.
