The Federal Government of Nigeria has designated Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday to commemorate Eid-el-Fitr.
This decision was disclosed by Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, in an official statement on Tuesday.
In the statement, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, extended congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful culmination of the month of spiritual renewal.
“The Federal Government has approved Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr,” the statement read.
The Minister emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.
This announcement follows Saudi Arabia’s declaration that fasting would continue on Tuesday, as the crescent of Shawwal had not been sighted.
Consequently, Eid-el-Fitr will be observed on Wednesday, April 10, marking the beginning of the new Islamic month.
Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays to observe the Eid-el-Fitr festivities, as reported by News Central.
