Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Nigeria’s former Minister of Science and Technology during President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, has passed away following a brief illness at an undisclosed hospital in Nigeria.
Dr. Onu, a former governor of Abia State, was also a contender for the presidential nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections, ultimately losing to President Bola Tinubu.
He served as Nigeria’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022.
Dr. Onu, an accomplished author and engineer, was notably the first civilian governor of Abia State. He held the record as the longest-serving minister of the ministry.
