Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, has been granted bail in the sum of N10 million by the Federal High Court in Lagos State.
He pleaded not guilty to charges related to tampering with and abusing the Naira.
Justice Kehinde Ogundare approved Chief Priest’s bail, requiring two sureties to each provide the same amount as the bail sum.
Chief Priest was brought before Justice Ogundare on three counts linked to allegedly mishandling the Naira at a social gathering, which violates the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
The incident reportedly took place on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel, where Chief Priest was accused of spraying and tampering with Naira notes while dancing during the event.
In addition, he faced allegations of tampering with N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them for a two-hour duration.
Chief Priest’s bail follows the recent sentencing of controversial figure Idris Okuneye, also known as “Bobrisky,” to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine.
This decision was made by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos after Bobrisky pleaded guilty to one charge of mutilating the Naira, as brought forth by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
