The Biden administration implemented fresh sanctions on Iran’s drone, steel, and auto industries, aiming to respond to Iran’s recent missile and drone attack on Israel while avoiding military escalation.
These sanctions, carried out in coordination with the United Kingdom targeting Iran’s drone and ballistic missile programs, highlight efforts to curb Iran’s malign activities.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen emphasized the swift and collaborative nature of these actions with partners and allies to address Iran’s aggression.
The sanctions specifically target individuals and entities involved in Iran’s drone production, as well as companies linked to materials for Iran’s Khuzestan Steel Company and subsidiaries of the Bahman Group, an Iranian automaker.
This move follows Israel’s consideration of a retaliatory strike against Iran and underscores U.S. concerns about broader regional escalation.
President Biden has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to exercise military restraint amid heightened tensions.
