In a tragic incident, 57-year-old Juan Jumalon lost his life while live streaming from his home studio in Calamba, Philippines.
The assailant entered his home under the guise of being a listener and, during the live stream, shot Mr. Jumalon twice. The attacker proceeded to steal Mr. Jumalon’s gold necklace before making a hasty escape on a motorcycle with an accomplice.
While authorities are conducting an investigation, they are exploring the possibility of the attack being work-related.
Unfortunately, Mr. Jumalon was pronounced dead while being transported to the hospital.
Though the assailant was not captured on camera during the Facebook livestream, the police are scouring Mr. Jumalon’s residence and nearby properties for security camera footage.
The Philippines has long grappled with a reputation as one of the most perilous places for journalists globally.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has vehemently condemned the shooting and has issued orders for the national police to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.
