An Army Captain, identified as Alphonsus Alexander Kalthy Bazza, reportedly took his own life in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. The family, shocked by the tragedy, revealed that Captain Bazza, a recent father, was discovered lifeless, hanging from a tree in a bush on Saturday night.
The circumstances surrounding his death are deemed ‘mysterious and suspicious’ by a family source. Despite his recent joy of becoming a father, Captain Bazza left no suicide note, leaving loved ones perplexed. The family questions the plausibility of a Captain using a mosquito net, with which he slept, to end his own life, emphasizing that he had no apparent motive for such a drastic act.
The family source expressed concerns about the unexplained death, pointing out that Captain Bazza had previously lost a tent mate under mysterious circumstances while stationed in Yobe. Married in 2017 and with a single child, a boy, the captain’s sudden demise has left his family grappling with unanswered questions.
The Nigerian Army headquarters has initiated an investigation into the incident, acknowledging the need to determine the true cause of Captain Bazza’s tragic end. The family awaits the findings of the investigation, as they remain unaware of any note left behind by the deceased officer.
