According to reports from the US Sun, Bethlehem has made an unprecedented decision, canceling Christmas festivities, including the iconic tree and lights in Manger Square, due to the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
The municipality spokesperson cited the somber mood in Palestine amid the Gaza massacre, expressing that celebrations wouldn’t be appropriate.
While a Christmas “mass and prayers” are scheduled, no decorations will adorn the area.
The historical town, usually bustling with visitors, has seen a decline in activity since Hamas’ October 7 massacre, contributing to a neglected atmosphere.
The conflict in Gaza persists, with the IDF coordinating incubator transfers to address critical medical shortages.
Over 11,000 people, including 4,500 children, have reportedly died in Gaza since Israel’s retaliatory actions against Hamas’s cross-border attacks.
