President Bola Tinubu has officially endorsed the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) bill, as announced by the presidential spokesperson, Anjuri Ngelale.
The bill, replacing the original 1964 law, grants DICON the authority to manufacture, store, and dispose of ordnance.
The legislation establishes the Defence Industry Technology, Research, and Development Institute (DITRDI) to foster scientific and research-based advancements in Nigeria’s defense industry.
It also introduces a comprehensive regulatory framework for the manufacturing, distribution, storage, and disposal of defense articles, along with incentives for private capital to support research, development, and production in the defense sector.
The bill, passed by the ninth national assembly led by Ahmad Lawan, aligns with recent appeals, including one from Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, urging Tinubu to sign the defense corporation and army trust fund bills into law.
