President Bola Tinubu affirmed on Tuesday the prioritization of Nigeria’s health sector, citing substantial investments and increased funds in the proposed 2024 budget.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, he emphasized the importance of universal health coverage and announced plans for a comprehensive revamp of healthcare infrastructure and frontline health worker training.
The Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, outlined initiatives, including the redesign of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) and transparent reporting of resource allocation.
Additionally, there are plans to double the number of fully functional Primary Healthcare Centres by 2027 and establish a mechanism for pooled pharmaceutical procurement in 2024 to address rising prices.
