Google will pay $700 million and ease restrictions on its Play Store following accusations of illegal practices, part of a US antitrust settlement before a legal battle with Epic Games.
The agreement aims to foster more competition, allowing consumers to download apps directly from developers and introducing an alternative payment system for in-app purchases.
Like Apple, Google charges commissions of 15-30%, a practice challenged by Epic. The settlement also grants Android developers more flexibility in offering payment options.
Eligible consumers, around 102 million in the US, will receive at least $2, with additional payments based on Play Store spending.
