Bobby Rivers, known for hosting Food Network’s “Top 5” and VH1’s “Watch Bobby Rivers,” passed away at 70 in Minneapolis on Tuesday, as reported by WISN.
His sister Betsy Rivers confirmed his passing on Facebook, stating, “Bobby passed away last night and is no longer in any pain.”
Tributes poured in from journalists and critics on social media, acknowledging him as a trailblazer, openly gay personality, and advocate for diversity in the classic film world.
Originally from Los Angeles, Rivers began his career at Milwaukee’s WQFM radio station and later made history as Milwaukee’s first Black film critic on television in 1979.
His journey included hosting various shows, interviewing notable guests, and contributing to programs like “Weekend Today in New York” and “Good Day New York.”
Beyond his on-air roles, Rivers delved into acting and maintained a blog, “Bobby Rivers TV,” until his passing.
