According to Sahara Reporters, some hoodlums attacked the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, forcing their way into the Accident and Emergency Complex to take away the corpse of a man.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, condemned the incident and mentioned that the police were already involved.
The hoodlums, angered by the man’s death, forcibly took his corpse from the Accident and Emergency Ward on Monday morning. The hospital’s management, through Rolake Adewumi, Head of Corporate Affairs, stated, “Management will not tolerate any act of violence or mayhem being unleashed on members of staff of the hospital.”
Olabanji revealed that the EKSUTH management and police authorities had met with the state Chairman of the Road Transport Association, mandating him to produce the ring leader, suspected to be a member of the association.
The hospital increased security with armed policemen stationed at key points.
Four armed policemen were deployed at the Accident and Emergency, and two at the main gate for enhanced security until further notice.
The Division Police Officer assured frequent patrols.
Olabanji assured that the person involved in a similar incident at the Neo-Natal Ward would face the law, as the case was already in court.
The CMD appealed to staff to remain calm, assuring that measures were in place to prevent such incidents.
The management vowed not to tolerate any molestation of its staff during duty.
